What a saga. I don't always like ANYONE at KGO, yet the loss of it is devastating. I can't put it away and I can't believe that it is so important to me.

I want to turn on my radio and hear Gene do his setup and know that I can turn him on any weekday evening I want to, listen as long as its comfy and turn it off when I want to.

I agree that people didn't keep a torch burning for you after you were fired Karel, and You didn't deserve to get fired in the first place. You certainly don't deserve to get fired now. None of them do. You desperately need this job and you are pragmatic about that. I get that.

Of all the people at KGO that I didn't always like, Bill W. was the one I more than didn't always like -- I couldn't listen to him ever -- and that was always true.

I don't know what Bill W. said about you, but whatever it was, I am certain it was repulsive. So, alas, being left at KGO is no piece of cake, and being fired is lousy, and being a listener is horrible. This sucks all the way around, but what bothers me more is the significance it has for all of us. We all sense that this is a string on the Cello breaking. These are awful scary times. Losses of all types surround us. I really don't want this to be as meaningful as i fear it is.

okay karel, I think your words sound like you, so I guess I believe this is really you talking. I heard you on Saturday and couldn't keep on listening. I KNEW that you would basically be feeling all the things you have herein stated, yet I couldn't let you off the hook. Hearing you carry the water for cumulus was just too much. We have all been losing a lot in drips and drabs for a long, long time, and its getting to the point where raw bones are exposed. I'm feeling it all around. Its personal, its political, its financial, its ethical, its the new america. I want it to be different, and often you are in so much pain I find it hard to listen.

Take care of yourself Karel and thanks for the explanation, even though I shouldn't have needed it.

Karel: I was merely reporting what Dr. Wattenburg told me. I don't necessarily agree nor disagree with him. Again, just reporting what he had told me.

I acknowledge the situation at KGO is one of deep angst and anxiety, even for those who retained their jobs.

In retrospect, I would have been wise to try to get your response and for that, I'm sorry.

I hope this clears the air.

Karel,
I'm sure you've heard this before, but when I hear you talk I feel like you understand things and people better than most. Please keep on doing what you're doing. We need your voice. I hope you never get discouraged.

I am hoping to attend the Feb. 2012 S.F. performance also. Thanks for everything.

yes, thank you for posting this. Like everybody else who has been a long-time listener to KGO I am extremely shocked about what happened.

KGO's uniqueness has been that each host had the freedom pretty much to be themselves AND to keep a caller on as long as they deemed necessary. No three minute time limit like some talk shows have.

they were freed to be informative, entertaining and occasionally even yell at the caller [Ray] however that's what set them all above and apart all the other shows.

Now were running redeye radio?

The old rule of business is when you offer the same product that everybody else has, you have to find a way to make a "niche" to bring people in. Just like Ross Perot discovered the hard way after he hired his "seasoned" campaign manager, who ran the campaign the same way everybody else did. It died!

Karel I am very glad that they kept you on as I will continue to listen to your program and I hope that you will keep up the uniqueness and style that makes you, you.

As for the rest of the programming... I can get the exact same thing on any radio station that I happened to land on.

Congratulations! Does that mean that Gene Burns is gone?

PS - Do you know anything about where Bernie is? I imagine he did something fishy, but I also know that he was set up. I mean they sent him to prison in TEXAS!

So happy to know you're on tonight. I just canceled my Sat night plans to listen to you
Absolutely hideous of Cumulus and I will no longer tune in after 30-plus years.
If I want all news I go to KCBS . I'm switching to Fox 910. There is absolutely no truth that this is what the audience wants

Glad you posted about this, Karel. KGO has a creepy way of burying discussion of news about itself (your earlier firing, Bernie, Mickey Luckoff's departure all disappeared into a maw of silence). I appreciate the fact that you don't work that way, and hope that you stay employed. I really deplore the loss of KGO's talk format. Who needs yet another repetitive news outlet?

Karel, what the 'ell???

So I am listening to KGO like usual, and some things sound sort of deja-vu-ey... then I hear stuff that actually happened a few days or weeks ago (and i remember hearing the host comments when originally aired). It takes awhile, but I realize all the shows are re-runs. OK, fine, they need a day off. but...ALL AT THE SAME TIME!?!?!

So, phooey, sez me, i will punish myself by switching over to the Babe (in the Bunker, yes, I actually do listen for the sheer entertainment value from time to time...). However, I somehow accidentally (REPEAT: ACCIDENTALLY!!!) tune in to El Salvaje... (you can call him Mike)....... and he sez anyone who is in the SF Market, to call him, as the PTB have decided to turn the BEST NEWS/TALK Radio station in to ALL NEWS!! (also, he did have all good to say about the station, format, hosts, etc --"except for one long term host who is known for the Hawaiian shirts he wears every day"...) I briefly flashed on KGO, of course, but then thought, naaahhhh.... it must be KSFO? But NO, They are total Qurappe! (even though I occasionally listen to Barbara S. just to see what we're up against)

So, my question is, basically, What the HELL???? When were we going to be TOLD about it? (Could I have missed the announcement? I also listen to KGO TV news ALLLL the time. Seriously, did they actually even announce it?)

I think there should be an "OCCUPY KGO" like, in the lobby, or in front of the bathrooms, or in front of the vending machines?? Oh, I am not ever going to physically "occupy" anything, but I would DEF'LY boycott my favorite brands, just to send a message to the sponsors. This is redonkulous!

I will literally NOT TUNE IN ever again, if the TALK format is dumped for news only (for news-only, you must admit KCBS is tops for that format, and really you only need one. And you NEEEEED TALK RADIO!!!!

Thanks for listening! I'll be listening on Saturday; hope you're gonna show up!

TrudieB SF Bay Area CoCo County!

I will be tuning in to see what Karel has to say (that may hopefully be a fresh batch of info that's informative on the subject of KGO being no more) ...=^(
